New York...Hauser & Wirth returns to Art Basel Miami this year with a presentation of exceptional works spanning generations, from historical figures like Louise Bourgeois, Ed Clark and Philip Guston to artists who have recently joined the gallery’s roster, including Nairy Baghramian, Jeffrey Gibson, William Kentridge and Michaela Yearwood-Dan.
The gallery will also debut extraordinary new paintings by Rita Ackermann, George Condo, Nicole Eisenman, Rashid Johnson, Allison Katz, Christina Quarles, Uman and Avery Singer, alongside new sculptures by Pierre Huyghe and Thomas J Price.
Highlights:
• Louise Bourgeois’ late sculptural masterpiece ‘Woman With Blue Necklace’ (2005), tenderly rendered, hand-sewn and patched together from cloth, examines the fraught terrain of femininity and motherhood, themes that consumed Bourgeois throughout her life. Spanning over six and a half feet, Philip Guston’s ‘Two Hearts’ (1978) encapsulates the confessional intimacy, introspection and self-revelation that characterize the late achievements of an American giant.
• A group of new canvases will be unveiled by gallery artists such as Rashid Johnson, whose first major museum survey ‘Rashid Johnson: A Poem for Deep Thinkers’ opens at the Guggenheim Museum on 18 April; Jeffrey Gibson, whose new immersive installation ‘POWER FULL BECAUSE WE’RE DIFFE- RENT’ is on view at MASS MoCA now through May 2026; Nicole Eisenman, whose acclaimed public project ‘Nicole Eisenman: Fixed Crane’ is on view at Madison Square Park, New York, now through 9 March 2025; and George Condo, who will present a brand new body of work at Hauser & Wirth‘s SoHo location in NYC this spring.
• Sculpture and a unique work on paper offer a window into the mind of William Kentridge, whose spectacular new chamber opera ‘The Great Yes, The Great No’ will make its US premier at The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County during the fair, for more information please visit arshtcenter.org.
