GENEVA – Phillips concluded The Geneva Jewels Auction: THREE ON 11 November at the company’s recently launched saleroom at the Hotel President, Geneva. The auction saw competitive bidding on the phones, in the room and online, achieving a total of CHF 12,083,580 / US$13,759,573 / €12,871,429, with 77% of the 112 lots sold.

Benoît Repellin, Phillips’ Worldwide Head of Jewellery, said “We are pleased with the overall result of CHF 12.1 million / US$ 13.8 million achieved this afternoon. The Geneva Jewels Auction: THREE featured outstanding pieces, notably our star lot, the Exceptional Burmese ruby and diamond ring weighing 17.97 carats, which sold for CHF 4.8 million / US$ 5.4 million. We continued to build on the strong momentum of recent sales featuring exceptional coloured gemstones. Highlights included an Important Colombian emerald ring, set with a step-cut emerald weighing 20.49 carats with no indications of clarity modification which sold for CHF 1.3 million / US$ 1.5 million, as well as a Ceylon Sapphire and diamond ring weighing 9.00 carats, which sold for CHF 184,000 / US$ 210,000.

Other standout jewels included 'The Red Miracle,' a Rare Fancy Red diamond ring, set with a cut-cornered rectangular-cut fancy red diamond weighing 1.21 carats, which fetched CHF 980,000 / US$ 1.1 million, well above its high estimate.

Colourless diamonds had a strong showing, with 100% of all lots selling, including a Diamond ring set with a 7 carat marquise-shaped diamond, which sold for CHF 280,000 / US$ 317,000, over double its presale high estimate.

Pieces with remarkable provenance were highly sought-after, including a Natural pearl and diamond necklace, from a European noble family, which sold for over four times its presale low estimate, achieving CHF 267,000 / US$ 303,000. A Spinel and diamond necklace gifted by King George IV to his mistress the Marchioness Conygham, sold for CHF 41,000 / US$ 46,000, more than three times its presale low estimate, and a Coral and diamond bracelet by Marsh & Co, formerly in the collection of Margaret Roebling Perrine and later Fred Leighton, sold for over CHF 16,000 / US$ 19,000.

Finally, signed jewels continued to have a robust showing, featuring notable pieces by Cartier, Bulgari, Buccellati, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Jean Schlumberger for Tiffany & Co. among others.

Looking ahead, our Geneva Jewels Online Auction ended on 15 November, and Phillips looks forward to their next live sale in New York, taking place on 13 December.”
