CHRISTIE’S ANNOUNCES 20TH/21ST CENTURY ART MARQUEE WEEK SALES
LONDON – Christie’s is pleased to present a dynamic series of live and online 20th/21st Century Art auctions coinciding with Frieze Week. The sales will present exceptional works by artists including Jeff Koons, Lucian Freud, Paula Rego, Franz Gertsch, Emil Nolde, David Hockney, Richard Prince, Sarah Sze, Cecily Brown and René Magritte, bringing together Contemporary, Modern, and Impressionist art across categories.
With diverse initiatives such as the partnerships with the Blue Marine Foundation, the British Council, and 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair, Christie’s 20th/21st Century Art Marquee Week will offer a platform for both established and emerging artists. The Frieze week sales will feature over 500 works with estimates ranging from £400 to £15,000,000. Blue: Art for the Ocean* is a philanthropic initiative taking place across our Post-War and Contemporary Art Day and Online sales. A line-up of over world leading 25 artists, led by Marina Abramović including, among others, Peter Doig, Edmund de Waal, Ai Weiwei and Hurvin Anderson, who have donated work to support Blue Marine’s projects around the world, aimed at tackling overfishing and protecting the ocean. Blue: Art for the Ocean highlights Christie’s ongoing efforts to leverage its influence in the art market for promoting sustainability and driving positive change.
To celebrate the British Council's 90th anniversary, our Post-War and Contemporary Art Day and Online sales will feature works in support of the British Council** Collection's new home at the National Collections Centre in Coventry. The sale will include both existing and newly created work donated by nine renowned artists, including Tracey Emin, Bridget Riley, Julian Opie, and Ian Davenport, among others.
Now in its fifth year, Christie’s ongoing partnership with 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair highlights the strong and evolving relationship between the global auction house and the fair. This collaboration underscores Christie’s dedication to bringing contemporary African art to a worldwide audience, while expanding the fair’s international reach and visibility.
Christie’s is also proud to support the exhibition Van Gogh: Poets and Lovers, currently on view at the National Gallery in London until 19 January 2025. An exhibition of the 20th/21st Century Art sales will be open to the public at Christie's King Street in London from 3 to 9 October 2024.
To coincide with the 20th/21st Century Art view, a selection of highlights from The Collection of Mica Ertegun, including René Magritte’s L'Empire des lumières (1954), will be on view in London before being offered at auction in New York starting from 19 November 2024.
