Artist Statement about the series, “Dreamscapes.”

Ever since noted expressionist artist Vian Borchert was a child she was a dreamer. Borchert remembers looking up at the sky and being fascinated by the clouds’ movement and formations. The sky was always there for the artist to dream upon and provide her with joyful feelings. For the artist, contemplation and observation on the world around her is of utmost importance to her work. The world, nature and the environment move the artist like no other. The paintings presented in the collection titled “Dreamscapes” are an accumulation of Borchert's dreams, her journeys, and what caught her eyes at a specific moment in time. The art illustrates the snapshots of Vian's visual voyages documenting her life through the "Dreamscapes" paintings' series. In “Dreamscapes”, V. Borchert aspires not only for herself but for the world to return to many feel-good emotions: a return to hope, a return to dream, a return to love, and a return to art. Hence, the exhibition visually translates what constitutes a dream, be it looking up at the clouds and dreaming the day away, be it looking at a sunset that says goodbye till another day, or be it looking up at tall skyscrapers that awaken one’s fascination with splendid architecture. Dreams arrive in many shapes and forms. Yet, the most wondrous of dreams are the ones that occur when one is awake. Ultimately, Carl Jung rings true in his findings that dreams are vital in the development of one’s personality. Consequently, art has been and remains a vehicle for Borchert that transports the artist to her dreams. The paintings in this collection embody Borchert's aesthetics of abstracted dreamscapes through her signature painterly cityscapes, seascapes and landscapes.
